All You Need To Know About Electric Cars

The automobile industry is one of the largest industries in the world. The world is now transforming thanks to the futuristic approach of major market stakeholders. Like everything around us, cars have undergone several stages of evolution. From the old carts to the latest racing cars, we have come a long way, and there is still a long journey ahead of us. Sales of car units grew from 63.8 million units in 2020 to 66.7 million units in 2021. Fifty years ago, if you asked someone, is there a possibility of a car being produced that runs without fossil fuel, does not emit harmful gasses, and could drive itself? They would probably reply that it can happen only by a miracle. Well, this miracle has come to reality now, and we call them Electric cars.

How are they different from other cars?

The significant differences lie in their mode of operation and whether they are futuristic or not.
  • If we talk about their mode of operation, Electric cars convert electrical energy from batteries into mechanical energy. This mechanical energy that the engine produces is used to run the car. At the same time, Fuel cars use fossil fuels, most commonly petrol and diesel, and use the energy produced by the combustion of these fuels inside the engine. Hence, we see a conversion from thermal energy into mechanical energy.
  • Electric cars are futuristic, and they are going to dominate the future. This is due to their up-to-date design, modern methods of energy production, environment-friendly approach, and easy-to-handle nature.

Main Components Of Electric Cars:

  1. Electric battery: It stores the energy and helps run the engine of the car.
  2. Charge port: This might seem unorthodox, seeing a charging port in a car, but this is just a glimpse of the future. It is a replacement for the fuel lid in fuel cars.
  3. A DC to DC battery: This battery converts high-voltage DC from the main battery into low-voltage DC, which is more suitable for running all the other appliances in the car, such as the music player and charging ports.
  4. Onboard charger: We do not usually use DC in our daily lives. Our homes and all our appliances run on AC. Therefore, it is logical and rational to think that charging pumps might also provide AC instead of DC. This charger converts the AC from the charging port to DC to be used in the car.

Benefits Of Electric Cars

  1. No emissions: This one should be a no-brainer considering the mechanism of the car. If it runs on electricity and nothing burns, there should not be any fumes to be exhausted. This is one of the factors which has attracted most people.
  2. Cheaper refueling: Fuel prices vary according to market conditions. Whereas electricity prices are usually constant for longer periods. This gives more surety and confidence to the people. Secondly, one day or the other, fossil fuels are going to run out. It is better to move towards the alternatives by our own will because one day, we will have to, no matter what.
  3. Lower maintenance costs: Different countries are offering subsidies and tax benefits to people who buy electric cars. Secondly, since these are new to the market, many companies are providing customer care and support for free. This has helped them attract a major portion of the customers.
  4. Lesser sound pollution: Everyone wants quieter surroundings. It not only lets you focus better on driving but also keeps you aware of the surrounding traffic. Not to mention, silence is therapeutic in this chaotic world.
  5. Instant torque: You can get on the move as soon as you start the car since electricity powers the engine, which directly transmits the energy to the wheels. Unlike fuel engines, which need some warmup before getting into prime shape, these cars are always ready to go, waiting just for your signal.
  6. Auto-pilot: Although this technology is not new, it was first introduced properly in electric cars, notably the TESLA. You can just sit back and relax, enjoy songs or watch a movie while your car steers you to your destination. This is powered by AI and is quite safe. This one feature has also caused many customers to switch toward electric cars, especially those who frequently travel on highways.
Pros and Cons of Electric Cars

Some Downsides To Electric Cars (YET):

The word ‘yet’ signifies the fact that these cars are a new invention. Whenever a new technology is launched in the market, it is rarely perfect. Customer reviews are what compel the company to look towards minor problems. As these cars become more common, all the issues will be resolved, hopefully. But for the sake of argument, some of the demerits are listed here:
  1. Spread out charging networks: While cruising down a highway, you will see numerous fuel pumps. But quite possibly, you might not even see a single electric pump. It is due to fewer users and the initial stages of electric cars. However, some countries are taking active measures in this regard. The USA is one of those. If you live in the USA, likely, you might not face any problems in the near future.
  2. Longer refueling time: It takes longer to refuel an electric car than a fuel car. It can be thought of just like charging your devices, i.e., mobile phones. However, there is no comparison, and the car charges much faster; the comparison is made only to give you an idea.
  3. Lesser choices: Searching for a fuel car is much easier than searching for an appropriate electric car due to the diversity of the options. But this problem will be resolved in the future once more companies buckle up and adopt the futuristic approach.

Concluding Remarks:

Whether people are ready for it or not, Electric cars are going to dominate the future. What we are seeing now is just a trial of what we’ll get to see when this technology reaches its prime, and it is bound to reach it. All the pros heavily outweigh the cons. Many countries are providing luxuries for buying electric cars. Now is the proper time to step into the future.
